Inspiring Change: The Impact of Support in Our Software Engineering Bootcamp

Everyone has a story, and each story shapes who we are. How we tell our stories can heal us and propel us forward; without healing, we let pain consume us and affect everyone around us. Our mission as an organization is to help people build sustainable career paths. To achieve this, we must inspire our students to focus on their futures while learning from their pasts.

Everyone's story can hold them back as much as it can propel them forward. It is a choice. Sometimes, we find the strength to move past what has held us back; other times, we need a support system to show us it's possible. Alone, we might succumb to self-doubt, but with the support of friends and family, that doubt can transform into self-confidence—fueled by others' belief in us.

Self-awareness is transformative, helping us replace doubt with belief in ourselves. The momentum from positive outcomes is akin to a slinky running down a staircase, building speed with each step. However, moments of change can create doubts and derail us. It's here where grit and tenacity are vital, quickly acknowledging these distractions as temporary. Recognizing when to seek help is crucial to regaining momentum and continuing our forward drive. This effort is ongoing; life's challenges constantly test our resolve.

My passion for helping our students realize their full potential drives my momentum and helps me face the challenges of running a business. When times are tough, I remind myself and my team of the importance of our work. Recalling those we've helped reenergizes us to overcome hurdles and leap forward, creating even greater impact.

Lunch with Lucian in San Antonio TX

I recently met one of our graduates, Lucian Bryan, during our America Tour in San Antonio, TX. Lucian, a graduate from our Software Engineering Bootcamp, joined through a scholarship and referral from COTA, which supports the formerly incarcerated and those at risk. New to coding, Lucian struggled initially but made extensive use of our resources— instructors, coaches, and office hours—to overcome his challenges. Supported by his cohort and our team, he moved from feeling incompetent to gaining competency.

Lucian's prior mechanical experience, combined with his new training, helped him secure a role as the head of the technical division for a dewatering company in Texas. Now thriving, he has started a family and looks forward to a future where he can meet any challenge.

Stay tuned for more stories from the road as we explore what it means to work remotely, live minimally, and embrace the vastness of the country with open arms and an open heart. This journey is as much about the destinations we'll discover as it is about the discoveries we'll find within ourselves along the way. Join us as we venture into the unknown, powered by technology, driven by wanderlust, and guided by the spirit of adventure.
